This yearly event is the highlight of the summer in Coeur d’Alene. Art on the Green is held at the old Fort Sherman Grounds on the North Idaho College Campus, just a short walk from Downtown and City Park. The campus green will be transformed into a stunning outdoor art gallery as the region’s top artists display their work and attract art enthusiasts from all over. In addition to hosting more than 140 professional visual artists, Art on the Green will feature fantastic summer food fare, live music on two stages, hands-on art activities for children and more–there’s something for everyone! From its humble beginning as a “Coeur d’Alene Art Festival” on the tennis courts of NIC almost half a century ago, Art on the Green has grown into one of the most highly acclaimed arts festivals in the region. The Art on the Green festival at North Idaho College has evolved into an extravaganza of art and culture enjoyed by more than 50,000 people each summer.

The 2013 Julyamsh Powwow and Coeur d’Alene Tribal Encampment located at the Greyhound Park in Post Falls, Idaho. July 26th – 28th. Everyone is welcome. In the words of Chief Alan, this “is the largest outdoor powwow in the Pacific Northwest. Over the next three days, we’ll honor Indian culture with dances, songs, games, and spirituality. This event is great because we get a chance to connect with old friends and to make new ones. It’s a time to celebrate our culture and to remember those elders who came before us” www.julyamsh.com

July 20, A Day in Coeur d’Alene That Won’t Be Forgotten

Muddy Miles, at The Kootenai Fairgrounds at 4:00 – Through the laughter and rival team bantering, you’ll exit the arena for a loop to the first of several obstacles. Each loop will challenge you and your team to work together to overcome the tire trap, the haymaker, the wailing wall (to mention a few). The music will be turned up, and the spectators aren’t just watching – they’re watching who to hit with water balloons! The course will be as daunting as you want it to be. Each obstacle will be tiered for your fitness level – Extreme Muddy Buddy ; Runner Amok ; Puddle Jumper. The important part isn’t beating yourself up, its getting out and challenging yourself with a healthy family activity for everyone. During the race, expect the watery mists to cool you, the music to excite you, and your team or family members to both laugh at you as well as need your help through the obstacles. muddymiles.com
Then wander on over to the 5th Annual St Vincent de Paul Steak-Fry, at The Kootenai Fairgrounds from 5 to 10. Great food and great entertainment featuring Kelly Hughes. Auction items, drawings and lotsa fun for the entire family. Yup, even the Muddy Miles participants will be there in all their muddy glory. www.stvincentdepaulcda.org or 208-664-3095

2nd Annual Wallace Blues Festival

July 12-13, 2013
Thank you to the members of the Inland Empire Blues Society for voting the first Historic Wallace Blues Festival the Best Blues Event of 2012. As one observer said, “It was like winning Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year at the same time.” They hope to stay worthy of such praise. So for the second Wallace Blues Festival, they did not want to disappoint. Instead of last year’s fourteen performers, they will have TWENTY-ONE PERFORMERS downtown on six stages over three days for an outrageous Blues Festival that you will never forget!
Since their historic town of 784 individuals has been dubbed The Center of the Universe (as well as The Silver Capital of the World), it is only fitting that this year they span the globe for entertainment. Thus they have new performers lining up for your enjoyment from England, The South, Seattle, Boise and The Inland Empire. Plus, of course, they invited back some of the stars from their first Blues Festival. With 21 musical groups performing over three days, you may need a schedule and a visual aid to see how we will pull it off. Visit www.wallacebluesfestival.com to see the line-up and schedule.
